After completing his primary and secondary education in Antakya, he got accepted to Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and started his medical education. In 2003, when he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, he passed the examination for specialty in medicine and started working as a general surgery assistant at Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital. In 2008-2009, he received education on cancer surgery and organ transplantation at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Hermann Hospital at the City of Houston in the United States of America. After he returned to Turkey, he ranked first in the subspecialty examination held in 2009, in which general surgeons participate. Following this examination success, he received training on gastrointestinal surgery at Turkish High Specialty Hospital between the years of 2009-2012. In 2012, he became Turkey’s youngest gastrointestinal surgeon and was appointed to the Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital.
Between 2012 and 2018, he lectured to the students of Marmara University, Faculty of Medicine and general surgery assistants, and he took part in many educational activities for patients and surgeons. He worked in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery, as well as played an active role in establishing organ transplantation and inflammatory bowel disease surgery units. He was awarded the title of associate professor through the examination held in March, 2017. He participated and successfully completed the revisional bariatric surgery course held in Belgium in 2017.
Throughout his career, he has reached thousands of patients by working at centers performing more than 2000 operations per year. His study performed in 2012 was granted the “Best Young Researcher” award by the International Transplant Congress. He was invited to several national and international congresses as a speaker. He was granted the certificate of appreciation for patient satisfaction by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate. He conducted seminars on Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Surgery for patient education and received a certificate of appreciation. He organized courses in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery in 2015 and 2017 and contributed to the training of his colleagues.
He is a member of the Turkish Surgical Association, Society of Gastroenterology, Association for Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery, Association of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery, Turkish Obesity Surgery Society, Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). Samet Yardimci is fluent in English. His specialties include bariatric surgery and metabolic surgery, reflux surgery, inflammatory bowel diseases surgery, and tumor surgery. He has written chapters for medical books in his field and conducted numerous studies published in Turkey and abroad. He is married and has one child.
